We moved into The Old School premises in March 1996 and opened a small coffee house serving light snacks and refreshments.
In the next few years as more customers came, we found that the coffee room was not big enough for the demand, so in 2000 work commenced on extending the building with our 40-seater Conservatory Coffee House. This was sympathetically built with the existing window arches and interior stonework being retained as features, and the outside of the building being finished in stonework to match the older part of the building.
Our Conservatory Coffee House, with wait-on service, serves light refreshments. A selection of home baking, homemade soup and our homemade ice creams are available. Our luxury chocolate cake served slightly warmed with our homemade vanilla ice cream and our Kennedys Hot Chocolate are well established favourites.
Group bookings and coach parties are welcome, but prior notice is requested, if not essential, so that double bookings are avoided.
There are viewing windows in the cafe where you can see our chocolate makers at work, and a short video film shows the various processes. The main making days are Monday to Friday, with less going on in the production room at weekends. (We are sorry, but due to the small space and for health & safety reasons, factory tours are not possible).
Our Factory Shop and Coffee House are open Monday-Saturday 9am-5.00pm and Sundays (and Public Holidays) 11.00am - 5.00pm. (We are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day Holidays). During the quiet month of January, our shop may not be open till 10am - but please check with us first. Last orders in our Coffee House are 30 minutes before the shop closing times. (The Coffee House can seat up to 40. There is wheelchair access and a disabled toilet facility).
